Impact Evaluation of the Integrated Double Fortified Salt (DFS) to Improve Iron Status and Reduce Anemia in Recipients of the PDS Program in Uttar Pradesh, India    

 

The Double Fortified Salt (DFS) program in UP was launched in late 2016, with technical support from The India Nutrition Initiative (TINI). Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) was invited to lead a consortium for evaluation of the program during this pilot phase. The evaluation focusses both on improving the program and measuring impact, and field support for the evaluation is being provided by DCOR Consulting Pvt. Ltd. The key components of the program evaluation are: i) Baseline assessment of nutritional status in the program areas, ii) Routine monitoring of program performance using key performance indicators defined by TINI, iii) Midline assessment of program performance, iv) Endline assessment of program impact. The baseline survey of the DFS intervention was conducted in 2016, before the program launch.
